More on comparing family history magazines

Thanks to fellow family history blogger Chris Paton, at Scottish GENES, we can add the one missing UK national family history magazine to the survey.

Your Family Tree
Chris writes that the spring issue of "Your Family Tree", which appears on North American newsstands with an outside cover title "Your Family History" has 100 pages, is 100% colour, with a cover price of £4.99 ($7.88) and 22 pages of ads. That's 7.9 cents per page, or 10 cents per pages not counting ads. There is a cover CD.

The UK prices escalate enormously on Canadian newsstands. I saw the February issue of Your Family Tree (History) for nearly $18 at Chapters recently.

Chris also mentions that in this case there is an online edition available by subscription £36.66 for 13 issues (normally £54.08 for print copy), or at £4.16 each. You do miss out on the cover CD.

In summary of the survey: Family Tree (UK) is the lowest newsstand cost (5.9 cents per page), the other three UK magazines are within 1 cent per page of 8 cents per page. North American family history magazines are all a fraction over 12 cents per page. UK magazine newsstand prices in Canada are at double or more UK prices.
