Ottawa Public Library biographical scrapbooks

The OPL has a collection of clippings extracted primarily from Ottawa newspapers with some periodical entries for dates ranging from 1939 to 1975 and a few clippings as early as 1911. More than 5,500 persons are included, all Canadian or of Canadian significance with a particular emphasis on individuals from the Ottawa area.

The scrapbooks, arranged alphabetically by surname with an index, are found in the Ottawa room.

Interesting. Perhaps the OPL should look at digitizing a resource such as this and making it available online. It would be a great resource for anyone interested in Ottawa and its people. I also find it puzzling - and have for several years - why these scrapbooks are at the library and not the new city archives facility.

There are also about 30 scrapbooks in the collection of the Ottawa Branch of OGS at the City of Ottawa Archives. They are currently at the OGS Provincial Office being scanned. Some have already been indexed and the names are included in the OGS TONI (https://www.ogs.on.ca/integrated/toni_database1.php). We hope to have them back later this year.
