Great War centenary

Between the War of 1812 bicentennial and the sesquicentennial of Canada in 2017 comes the start of the Great War centennial in 1914.

How will that be remembered in your community? I'm hoping BIFHSGO makes it one theme for its 20th (Platinum) anniversary in 2014. After all, a majority of the Canadian First Contingent were British, many of them recent immigrants.

How will your community, and your society, mark the Great War centennial?

The West Sussex Library Service and West Sussex Record Office are seeking volunteers to research the lives of local soldiers, nurses and other West Sussex people involved. These will be placed on a website telling some of these First World War stories, particularly focusing on the Royal Sussex Regiment.  Work on this Heritage Lottery funded project starts in November, and they are looking for people who have done some family or local history research.
