War of 1812 Stories

In publishing the book More Than A Mere Matter Of Marching OGS, Niagara Peninsula Branch is doing its bit, most appropriately given their location, in commemorating the bicentennial of the War of 1812.
The collection of more than 60 family stories is about "those valiant men and women who found themselves in the midst of battle in the War of 1812. Some took up arms; many of them lost everything they owned. When former President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, made the now famous remark, “The acquisition of Canada this year, as far as the neighborhood of Quebec, will be a mere matter of marching, and will give us experience for the attack of Halifax the next, and the final expulsion of England from the American continent.” He underestimated both the determination of Canadians and their First Nation allies to remain separate from the American Republic and the efforts of Britain to retain the northern part of North America."
The book, more than 300 pages and 1700 names, is available until the end of October, 2013, at a special pre-publication discounted price of $25.00 plus shipping & handling through www.ogs.on.ca/niagara/
