Start of the Great War: British Empire

A century ago on this date, 4 August 1914, Britain declared war on Germany as a result of Belgium's appeal to Britain as German troops moved through their territory. As a part of the British Empire Canada was automatically at war.
The Canadian Legion is recommending lighting a candle in remembrance on August 4th, after the sun has set, turn off all the lights in your home and light a single candle in honour and remembrance.
