Findmypast adds to National School Admission Registers & Log-Books 1870-1914 collection

Findmypast have added 1.9 million additional records to this database, now over four million school records from twenty-eight counties in England and Wales: Anglesey, Bedfordshire, Breconshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Caernarvonshire, Cardiganshire, Cheshire, Denbighshire, Devon, Flintshire, Glamorganshire, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Huntingdonshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Licolnshire, Middlesex, Monmouthshire, Northamptonshire, Pembrokeshire, Suffolk, Surrey, Sussex and Wiltshire.

Findmypast are becoming much better at providing information about the contents of their databases. There's a long list of the schools and dates covered, some much later than the advertised cut-off date of 1914 - one extends to 2011.

Each record comprises a transcript and a colour image of the original register. The amount of information listed varies, but the records usually include a combination of the following information:

First name(s)
Last name
Birth year
Birth date
Event year (either the year a student was admitted in the admission register or the year an entry was written in the log-book)
School name
Name of parent(s)

The image may contain additional details, including:

Admission number
Admission date
Re-admission date
Claim to exemption from religious instruction (if any)
Father’s occupation
Previous school
Reason for leaving previous school
Date of leaving previous school
Details of any illnesses or other reasons for absence
Exam results
