Via The Guardian, "A remarkable set of original early glass negatives detailing everyday 19th-century street scenes has been found by Aaron Guy, who works at Newcastle's Mining Institute. Most are from Newcastle, but some in the collection are from other parts of the north-east. The photographer is unknown"

Great photos from my ancestral homeland. I think the older lady to the left in the meat market is smoking a clay pipe. The children make many of the scenes. Can anyone identify the pictures of the politicians? Bryan Cook
Fascinating photos very reminescent of Frank Meadow Sutcliffe's work from the Whitby area. His photos can be viewed (and purchased) at: http://www.sutcliffe-gallery.co.uk/
