UK Government Announces Further Cuts to The National Archives Budget

Earlier this week the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer (Minister of Finance) announced sweeping across-the-board budget cuts to UK government departments and agencies. The National Archives was far from exempt. TNA cuts come on top of those already implemented earlier this calendar year.

A posting on its website about these reductions and there impacts informs that:

"we need to make 25% cuts  phased in over the next four years (which represents a 16% cut in real terms)" and that "The savings made during the 2010 savings programme will contribute to the total 25% cuts we need to make over the next four years."

The announcement continues:

"While this clearly will be challenging, and difficult decisions will have to be made on our priorities over the next four years, we do not anticipate that we will need to make further redundancies to meet these targets." 

TNA is not yet ready to announce how services will be impacted.
