Thanks to Barbara Tose for drawing this to my attention. Barbara points to the Yorkshire Archaeological Journal article on Court Records of the Diocese of York 1300-1858 which mentions that they've just been catalogued in an on-line database as something of genealogical interest.
Attempts over several days to access the on-line database mentioned in the following quotation from this post have all resulted in 404 not available messages. I'll try again during UK business hours.

That the "Cause Papers" are related to the Court Records can be seen by these introductory words that you will see:
"Welcome to the Cause Papers Database, a searchable catalogue of more than 14,000 cause papers relating to cases heard between 1300 and 1858 in the Church Courts of the diocese of York."
