TNA podcast: The 1911 Census: a vision of England

This was a presentation given at Kew on August 31 by freelance researcher, writer and former TNA advisor Dave Annal. He puts the census in context with the previous Victorian censuses and points out the significant change, individual household census returns, in 1911.

He gives examples of men who subsequently died in the British forces in WW1, illustrates some cases of people living in poverty, tells about those who refused to respond as a suffragette protest, and mentions dead children being listed as a reason why the 1911 census appears to have overestimated the population.
