Here's a unique way to celebrate the Fourth of July!
According to a posting on BritishGENES, Origins (www.origins.net) is offering free access, on July 4th only, to its Prerogative Court of York wills and administrations records for England from pre-1858.
Look for records in this database for those who owned property exclusively in the North of England, Cheshire, Cumberland, Durham, Lancashire, Northumberland, Nottinghamshire, Westmorland and Yorkshire, and died prior to 1858. However if their holdings were more local and of relatively small value probate would likely have been dealt with by an archdeacon's court.
