Ancestry Parish Registers

Now available on Ancestry, another bumper crop of English, plus a few Welsh and Scottish, resources. They are page images of more than 170 books without OCR. I'm not sure I got to see the full list. Many have more than 1,000 pages.

This post highlights those in the selected parish registers series. In decreasing order of number of pages they are: London, Nottinghamshire, Lancashire, Shropshire, Cheshire, Cumberland, Yorkshire, Surrey, Monmouth, Wiltshire, Buckinghamshire, Staffordshire, Cornwall, Warwickshire, Nottinghamshire, Devonshire, Sussex, Suffolk, Essex.

Ancestry lists the major components for each county but you can`t be sure what you`ll find. Despite having nearly 3,000 pages the London volume contains records for just three churches: St Botolph Bishopsgate, 1558-1753; The Temple Church, Burials, 1628-1853; Westminster Abbey, 1655-1875. Walsall, in Staffordshire, contains images of the original register. Some have a name index, some don`t.
