Last weekend's OGS meeting in Oshawa was the occasion for the Society Annual General Meeting. Here's an update.
Robert Crawford was returned as Society Secretary, and Steven Clendenan as Vice-President Finance, for 2013-2015.
A motion from the floor to increase fees by 2% across the board in 2014 and 2015 was approved after a motion including a $4 increase was defeated.
Simcoe Region was recognised as having best branch newsletter; Durham Region received honourable mention.
Jim Stanzell, long-time Ottawa Branch member, was received a Citation of Recognition. I wish Jim a speedy recovery from recent surgery.
The Keffer Writing Competition winner was Stephen Young for "Finding Esther". Runners up were Ellen Paul, Maggie Patterson and Margaret Clayton.
Two student essay prizes were not awarded.
Comment: Will OGS please reconsider changing these student essay prizes to capture student enthusiasm by awarding a prize for some other form of genealogically-relevant communication such as a video -- or even a blog!
