John Grenham's latest
Irish Roots column describes the circumstances surrounding a collection of "wills, correspondence, estate records, family trees, lease-books, tenants’ lists, maps, deeds, correspondence and much more ... approximately 11 million separate items."
In the Republic these are not publicly accessible, for Northern Ireland they are openly available at PRONI.
Interesting that when Ireland is trying to attract genealogical tourism bureaucracy should be allowed to reign supreme.
