Commemorating victims of a WW2 flying accident

On September 21 at Westchester, Nova Scotia, there was a ceremony to inaugurate a plaque to two airman fatalities on 30 November 1944. The plaque was subsequently placed at the crash site on nearby Higgins Mountain.

They were Donald Lloyd Breadner and Kenneth Brian Bennett who were killed in a crash resulting from a structural failure of their aircraft, Mosquito KB278.

Breadner was from Ottawa and is buried at Beechwood cemetery. He was the son of Air Chief Marshal Lloyd Samuel Breadner, CB, DSC who was Chief of the Air Staff during World War II and Mary Evelyn Breadner (nee Story).

Credit for this initiative to Norman Sheppard and Daniel Goguen.

  2. Coordinates are approximately:

    45.575614, -63.599892

The memorial is as pictured above. There might be some flagging tape to mark a trail coming from the road to the east. Best of luck!
