The conference website is a major means of communicating with potential attendees, and speakers. Certainly it needs to contain "why, who, what, where, when, how much" information about the conference.
Beyond that what message(s) does the site send through its design? Is the information in an easily accessible format? How does it look on a smartphone? Is everything crammed together and what impression does that leave ... that there's lots on offer ... or ...?
The site for Ottawa's Internet of Things Conference this September struck me. Clear layout, lots of white space, effective use of colour. It doesn't work so well on a smartphone though.
