Digitization of Canadian Expeditionary Force Service Files: August update

The regular mid-month Library and Archives Canada blog post update on progress of digitizing CEF service files will not be posted during the election. Federal departments are required to stop publicity activities including blog posts. Fortunately the embargo does not extend to routine service matters -- we still get weather forecasts.

LAC has posted a factual update dated 2015-08-17 at http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/military-heritage/Pages/digitization-cef-service-files.aspx which reads:
As of today, 181,338 of 640,000 files are available in the database. Latest box digitized—box: #2490, name: Devos.
As of 15 July there were 171,771 files available meaning that over the intervening 32 days 299 files have been digitized per day, compared to 307 per day in the previous period.

  1. Unbelievable. It is amazing that we can still get weather forecasts. What do the files of WW1 Soldiers have to do with Publicity. I guess they are doing to take down all of their web pages as well. These people are nuts.
