Ontario Genealogical Society Acquires “ALivingPast.ca”

The following is an extract from an OGS announcement.
The Ontario Genealogical Society is pleased to announce that it has acquired the genealogical website http://alivingpast.ca/ by way of gift from the site’s founder and operator, Peter Bolton.
ALivingPast.ca was established by Peter Bolton and Barbara Kyle in 2000 with the hope of expanding their own genealogy database. Along the way, they discovered and began to transcribe a wealth of family research material for Port Hope and Hope Township: births, marriages & deaths; census returns; probates; newspaper articles; and much more. The site today comprises some 250 pages of transcribed materials.
Planning for their retirement, and wanting to preserve their legacy for future generations,
Peter turned to the Ontario Genealogical Society, which is delighted to be able to preserve this wonderful resource, in accordance with its mission to preserve Ontario’s genealogical heritage.
Peter will continue to operate ALivingPast.ca for some time to come, and the site will remain freely accessible and open to all.
Site owners who may be interested in discussing the future of their sites with OGS are encouraged to email the Society’s Technical Support and Innovation Committee at tsic@ogs.on.ca
