Ancestry collections, England and Wales, Death Index, 1989-2018 now with 2,194,898 entries; and Scotland and Northern Ireland, Death Index, 1989-2018 with 526,913 entries, are often overlooked.
Sourced from GreyPower Deceased Data, these provide name, gender, date of birth or age at death, date of death, and residence place at death.
It includes about 55% of the total deaths that occurred in this time period in England and Wales and 45% for Scotland and Northern Ireland (also includes a few from Jersey and the Isle of Man).
The data, derived from non-official sources, is compiled by Wilmington Millennium as a source for companies to cleanse their databases of the deceased and fraud prevention. For official sources the GRO holds back recent records; Ancestry's England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index ends in 2007.
If you do an exact search for a surname and a specific date of death results for that date appear first, then for that month but in random order, then for that year in random order.
