Cleansing ‘corrupted blood’

Scotland's Caledonian Mercury reports on a "Parliamentary bid launched to wipe Jacobite smear from the records"

According to the report a series of Acts of Parliament in the wake of the Jacobite rebellions in the 17th and 18th centuries a large stripped a number of Stuart-supporting families of their titles, disinherited their descendants and declared their families as having ‘corrupted blood’ in perpetuity.

Comment: It's remarkable how long old grievances can persist.

Thanks to BIFHSGO colleague Richard McGregor for the tip.
