In his latest Irish Roots column John Grenham recounts the difficulties he's had getting information deleted from Mocavo, now a part of MyHeritage. correction findmypast. Read it here.
My apologies to MyHeritage for the incorrect attribution and thanks to Thomas MacEntee for pointing it out.

John - Mocavo is part of Findmypast, not MyHeritage.
My Heritage is, I believe, closely related to, if not one and the same, with Geni.com. I've had three unsettling experiences with Geni, where I have a free account and only joined because a cousin of my husband invited me. The latest uncomfortable development propelled me into spending the better part of a day systematically deleting part of my tree at Geni, not an easy task because once you've put a tree up at Geni, your tree will remain there even if you delete your account. I found a way, though -- at least, after reading the article at your link, I hope I did....
Perfect. As I suspected. Mocavo keeps trying to get me to subscribe by my Genealogy-for-profit attena was on high alert. Glad to read this.
Thanks for this John and thank you to John Grenham for his account of Mocavo. I not a member of Mocavo but have used their site on "free search weekends". Even from those free searches however they are storing your information as they have sent me supposed matches for names I searched for on a free weekend. I may have to rethink my use of their "freebies".
