Canadian ships passenger lists remain one of the most difficult records of the period with which to work. Now, if you have someone of Scottish ancestry who arrived at a Canadian port, there is help at hand. A local Ottawa researcher, Don McKenzie, has indexed the passenger lists for Eastern Canada arrivals of Scots from 1870 to 1883 and donated the index to Library and Archives Canada (LAC). Its a typescript. LAC hope eventually to OCR the text and make it into an online database. In the meantime you can always contact the Canadian Genealogy Centre and ask for a lookup.
