The Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) was formed in 1917 and organised in four sections: Cookery, Mechanical, Clerical and Miscellaneous. Nursing services were the responsibility of the separate Voluntary Aid Detachments,
WAAC was to re-named 'Queen Mary's Army Auxiliary Corps' (QMAAC) in April 1918.
Approximately 57,000 women served with the WAAC and QMAAC during the First World War.
This FamilySearch collection United Kingdom, World War I Women's Army Auxiliary Corps Records, 1917-1920 contains records of 7,000 women from series WO 398 at the National Archives.
With a total of 264,610 images of enrollment forms, statements of service, and other documents pertaining to their service online there are an average 38 pages for each woman who served.
