An informative panel discussion from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission with guests Lucy Nokes (author of Dying for the Nation: Death, Grief and Bereavement in Second World War Britain - horrendously expensive) and Alan Allport (author of Britain at Bay - more reasonably priced).
Among the resources mentioned was MOIDIGITAL - a history of the Minister of Information 1939-46. The reports were created by the British government's Ministry of Information for the purpose of monitoring public opinion, and for researching aspects of wartime life of interest to the government. Searchable so you can look for anything on a location or event of interest.

Lucy Noakes' book is expensive but her PhD. thesis - Gender and British national identity in wartime: A study of the links between gender and national identity in Britain in the Second World War, the Falklands War, and the Gulf War from University of Sussex, 1996 is available as a free download at ethos.bl.uk
