LAC's primary mandate

A worthwhile opinion piece in the Ottawa Citizen by Wesley Wark "Library and Archives Canada needs to be reminded of its primary mandate, which is to make the historical record of Canada available to Canadians."

Totally agree about the LAC's primary mandate. Yes, there may sometimes be valid security concerns and/or privacy issues that need to be balanced against the goal of open access to information. But the default should be public access to the historical records, and the burden of proof should lie with those who want to restrict access to the records, and not the other way around.
