Connected Histories, enables users to search for British names, places and dates, as well as save, connect and share resources within a personal workspace across 11 major digital resources for the period 1500-1900, including British History Online, British Museum Images and Old Bailey Online.
Some of the resources are free to view, some require a subscription unless you are within a British higher education facility.

You can limit your search in several way, including by source, time period, and the nature of the search term (person, place). However, I found a person search missed many occurrences.
The site is a university cooperative project funded by JISC which is a consortium of funding agencies, the likes of which Canada lacks, pity.
