Liverpool church records at Ancestry.co.uk

If your family history is in Liverpool this could be the best day of the year for you! 

Ancestry have added parish records, both Catholic and Church of England, for Liverpool area parishes. These are indexed records with the actual record image linked which most often contains more information than indexed. The coverage includes the time of the Irish Potato Famine when huge numbers of Irish settled in or passed through Liverpool.

There are more than 30 Catholic parishes for baptisms and marriages, and 17 burial ground and cemeteries.

The larger number of Anglican church records include those in Bootle, Edge Hill, Everton, Liverpool, Toxteth Park and more, and some 30 churchyards and cemeteries for burials.

A quick look at the records failed to find a baptismal record for my great grandfather despite him being recorded as born in Liverpool in 1837 in three successive censuses.

Have a lost Irish ancestor who left for Boston, US, from Liverpool, before 1837. Family Bible page said married there, thanks for the clue.

I had the bare bones of my 3XGrandfather’s marriage from a visit to Salt Lake City, but now I have the details, including the Parson’s and witnesses’ names and the then-current spelling of the bride’s name, with more specific source references, from the image of the St. Peter’s Parish Church, Liverpool record.
