Urbanism in Britain and Canada

Working on my presentation for WDYTYA Live has prompted investigation of comparative Canadian and UK statistics:

Canada has just over half the population of the UK
Canada's population density is 71 times less than the UK

In both countries 80% of the population is urban.

Based on the 2001 censuses, the major conurbations rank as:

8.2 million - Greater London
2.5 million - Toronto
2.3 million - Birmingham - West Midlands
2.2 million - Manchester
1.5 million - Leeds/Bradford
1.2 million - Glasgow
1.0 million - Montreal
0.9 million - Tyneside
0.8 million - Calgary
0.8 million - Liverpool

Surprised at how many Canadian cities rank in the top 10?
