Winnipeg Tribune Archive Online

The entire run of the Winnipeg Tribune, from 1890 to 1980 is now online: http://digitalcollections.lib.umanitoba.ca/islandora/object/uofm%3A1243378

Although there's a search box I couldn't get it to deliver results, perhaps because I'm trying on a (not so) smartphone while in Croatia. If you have better luck please post a comment.

Thanks for pointing me to a new resource.

When using my desktop computer I have had better luck than you when it comes to searching that collection. Using one of the names of my family that resided in Winnipeg I was able to use the search box to filter by the surname and also by the separate date filters to find articles of interest to me. However, I did find that the "Newspaper Search" option was much better than just using the search box since I could then exclude certain words.

The search box does work, John, although a bit slow this morning.

I was able to get results for a name search. Relevant word was highlighted on the page and was easy to find.

Search function has filters for date range, an advanced search, and images can be downloaded - at least the one I found - I have looking for my Grandparents wedding announcement for years. Thank you for this source!

It worked for me.

I got results for the name "Macdonald" but in a rather odd format. You get little screenshots of applicable pages and you have to click on one to enlarge it to get any idea of content.

Yes, the search box is returning some great results for me. Thanks for the link, John. Results can be filtered by date, searches limited to a given issue, etc. I haven't yet explored all possibilities, but I'm happy so far!
