British Unitarian ancestors

The farewell, April 2010, issue of Ancestors magazine arrived earlier in the week. Sad to see its demise. Apparently editor Simon Fowler is working with TNA on a possible new magazine.

The issue includes a short article Objecting Ancestors by Stuart Raymond on nonconformists.

Right at the end of the article is mention of the Unitarian denomination, which in the UK dates from 1773. A good starting point for Unitarian ancestors is the Unitarian Historical Society at http://unitarianhistory.org.uk

Some of the resources accessible online are:

An index of obituaries of Unitarians from 1798 to the present from Harris Manchester College www.unitarianobituaries.org.uk/index.php

Lists of Unitarian Ministers, for 1800-1899 with separate lists for before and after 1850 http://unitarianhistory.org.uk/ministerobit1800.html, and 1900-2004 at http://unitarianhistory.org.uk/ministerobit.html

There is also a location list of the records and archives of most Unitarian congregations in Great Britain, at http://unitarianhistory.org.uk/hsrecords.html
