I loved the boring speakers bit. So so true. How many of us have sat through talks in which the speaker has gone well over the time limit announced, endlessly saying they 'will be brief' but lose track of time and drive the audience to zzzz.

Same with journal articles. State what the article is about up front, get to it succinctly, be clear and end the thing with bringing it around to the specific theme quickly.
