On this date a century ago, 9 September 1916, John Edgar Milton, Sergeant Major of the Canadian Army Service Corps, passed away. Death was the result of a single vehicle traffic accident. He was riding on the running board of a large military truck to his home at 536 McLeod Street, fell off near Bank Street and was run over. The coroner found it was purely accidental.
Born in Scotland, he was age 34 years and 8 months at death according to his Ontario death certificate which shows his first name as Jas. - James on his Beechwood burial entry. He had married the former Dora Annie Sansom on 10 September the previous year.
He arrived in Canada on 29 September 1911 on the Empress of Britain giving his occupation as traveller.
He is buried in Sec. A. Range 3. Grave 48 at Beechwood Cemetery.
