CWGC Beechwood Cemetery Burials: Bernard Collins Connelly

Born 28 April 1890 in England, he attested, a single man, on 30 December 1914 in Ottawa serving with the Canadian Mounted Rifles. When he married Jessie Lynn Smith on 6 May 1915 the registration was with his father's name George Collins Connelly (born in Ireland) and mother Marie Chaplin Connelly which would explain why his birth registration in King's Norton was with the name Bernard Chaplin Connelly.

Sergt. Bernard C. Connelly, a veteran of the war. died yesterday at a local hospital, from wounds received on active service. While overseas he was wounded three times and never completely recovered. The late Sergt. Connelly enlisted with the Eighth Canadian Mounted Rifles in Ottawa and went overseas. He returned home three years ago.
Besides his widow, he is survived by two sons. Janies and George, his mother. Mrs. George Connelly. Lepage Avenue; one sister, Mrs. Win. Thivierge, 474 Somerset Street: and three brothers, George, in England, William, 474 Somerset Street, and Frank, Lepage Avenue. Ottawa. He was 30 years of age and was born in England. Eleven years ago he came to Canada and for some years was a member of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police.
His funeral will take place from his late residence, 134 Cambridge Street, Monday morning at 10:30 to Beechwood Cemetery. The service will take place at 10 o'clock.

He died while undergoing an operation for a gun-shot wound to the lung and was interred in Plot 29. Lot 14.35.
