Researching British merchant mariners

The most recent posting in the BIFHSGO blog is my conversation with Barbara Tose who will speak at the Society conference on Sunday, September 19. Barbara came upon her interest in these specialist sources for family historians when she discovered ancestors who were masters and mates in Britain's merchant marine.

Read the blog post, listen in on the conversation, and read a previous post about one of Barbara's talks.

I was somewhat disappointed that Barbara Tose gave no sources for finding information on British merchant mariners. On a visit to TNA two years ago I found they had less than they had had back in the 1980s.

Barbara does have to save something to tempt people into the actual conference presentation!
