Joseph Wilson was born in Ireland on 17 September 1887.
He attested in September 1914 giving a Montreal address and occupation labourer. His father was stated to be Charles Wilson of Killeshandra, County Caven. He had a brother William in Saskatoon.
Promoted from the ranks, he reverted to Private at his own request, then was promoted to Sergeant again.
Wounded twice, once at Vimy Ridge, he was repatriated to Canada in October 1917 and discharged as medically unfit in April 1918.
He died at age 31 in hospital in Ottawa on Friday 4 April 1919 from "Cardiac failure and exhaustion following shock from an explosion"
