COVID-18 Cancellation News

Perhaps you got this message from Dianna Fulton, Chair of OGS/Ontario Ancestors Conference 2020

We continue to monitor the rapidly evolving COVID-19 outbreak and the challenges it poses to events like the Ontario Ancestors Conference. As of today, March 18, we plan to move forward with the Conference, June 5-7, 2020. A formal re-evaluation will take place in mid-April regarding the viability of holding the conference. We will provide you with updates to keep you informed.

This means:

We recognize the uncertainty that these difficult times mean for all of us. Accordingly, in order to allow you to continue to make plans, while reserving the right to change your plans without cost, our registration refund period has been extended to May 5. That's right, you can register now, and be assured that you can cancel your plans at any time up to, and including May 5, and obtain a 100% refund of your registration fees. We hope that this extension will allow you to register for Conference and to continue with your planning, while providing you assurance that you will be entitled to a full refund if circumstances change for you, and you wish to cancel your registration for any reason. We hope you will join us in planning to attend Conference 2020.

Conference Early Bird registration will continue until April 30. After April 30 fees will increase by $35. If there is an ultimate decision to cancel the conference, all registrants will receive a full refund.

We know how much Ontario Ancestors Conference means to our community. While we hope that we won’t have to cancel, we recognize that it is a possibility. We are striving to balance making an informed decision by giving our members, sponsors, and all attendees enough time to plan.

COMMENT
Dianna and the conference committee likely have as much information as I do. I'd be surprised if the conference goes ahead.

Cancellations
Due to the current health implications concerning the Covid-19 pandemic Family Tree Live is cancelled. The organizers thank their partners, sponsors, lecturers and workshop tutors, as well as everyone who purchased tickets. Details on refunds or alternative options forthcoming.

The 31st Scottish Association of Family History Societies Annual Conference scheduled in Musselburgh, East Lothian, on Saturday 18 April 2020 has been cancelled.

Guild of One-Name Studies
The Guild 41st Anniversary Conference and AGM 2020 “Sources and Resources” is scheduled for 24-26 April at Jurys Inn Oxford. The latest advice from the Guild dated 10 March retained the event. It appears it was not cancelled as doing so without the government banning such meetings would incur the Guild paying the full cost. Expect another announcement on Thursday at https://one-name.org/guild-conference-agm/UPDATE:  The cancellation was announced with the Guild able to arrange it without loss of their deposit by committing to the same location in 2021.

The Last Post Ceremony, the daily act of remembrance at the Menin Gate Memorial, will go ahead each evening but the public are asked not to attend due to the unprecedented spread of the coronavirus.
