All GLAM institutions are closed to the public. All but essential staff are required not to travel to work and self-isolate at home. Arrangements for working from home are made where the nature of the work makes that possible. Despite time saved in commuting working from home is a trial if there are children around.
I was impressed to see a series of tweets from the Borthwick Institute for Archives at the University of York (UK) updating on their recent activity. Even if regular duties can't be performed to keep people usefully employed there are undoubtedly other tasks that can be done remotely that can be reassigned such as transcriptions, indexing, compiling and updating finding aids.
Will our Canadian institutions take advantage of their social media channels to let us know about the progress being made in these circumstances, just as Borthwick did.
